no contest. 428XD. Superior in everyway regardless of the fact that the 428 is not full hd. There are many discussions threads on here that discuss 24frames per second. If you are planning to watch blu-ray/HD DVD now or in the near future then you need 24fps otherwise you will get judder. Panasonics do not support 24fps.
Pioneer is the one to go for IMO. I have seen the PZ Panny range and the picture is not a patch on the 508. I have not seen the 4280 but I believe that they are indeed very similar in PQ. Pioneer are not even launching a 1080p 42" screen as they have stated that it is not of any benefit on a 42" screen
24hz for BluRay/HD DVD on the 428 is a big deal, the 1080p resolution of the PZ isnt. In fact, on every 1080p TV ive seen (Ive seen every 1080p LCD, but not the PZ plasma), freeview/DVD/Sky has been awful. Games from both the X360 and PS3 also look worse (even the 1080p ones, oddly).
I went through 2 Samsung 40" 1080p 40M87 LCDs before paying £800 more for the non-1080p 428XD + stand (the 4280XD comes with the stand, on the 428XD, its extra). Its turned out, in every single way, to be worth about £5000 more to me than the Samsung (some problems were that models fault, others, like the games and rubbish freeview/DVD seem to be the same on all 1080p TVs).
Its worth pointing out that the 428XD and 4280XD will produce the exact same image quality, its just that the 428XD includes extra calibration settings (so, in theory, it will produce a better image quality once calibrated), USB for a photo gallery, a better remote, and thats about it
Our Comments: The best plasma Pioneer has ever made. Stunning in every way.
