Как и в других недавних переизданиях записей Jethro Tull, Стивен Уилсон (Steven Wilson) заново микшировал оригинальный альбом, а также ранее не издававшиеся концертные записи. Помимо пяти музыкальных CD, в комплект входит диск Blu-ray с многоканальным вариантом и четырьмя промороликами 1970 и 1971 годов.

На момент выхода в 1972 году, альбом Living in the Past был задуман как вводная подборка для новых слушателей, познакомившихся с группой после того, как Thick as a Brick (пятый альбом группы) занял первое место в чартах. Living in the Past достиг третьей строчки в хит-параде США. Оригинальный винил включал альбомные треки, би-сайды и синглы, записанные с 1968 года. Новая версия содержит ремикшированные версии этих треков и альтернативные записи песен Jethro Tull того времени. Переиздание также включает концерт Jethro Tull в Карнеги-холле 4 ноября 1970 года, отредактированный Стивеном Уилсоном — он никогда ранее не издавался.
